The Still-Vexed Question of 10%

There’s really no oil in the Western Region of Ghana, but the oceanic oilfields float off the western coast dragging damage over its terra firma. There being ten regions in Ghana, it sounds like a no-brainer that the Western Region should receive ten percent of Ghana’s oil revenue. But I’ve never been impressed by such ‘duh-rithmetic’.

  1. Personally, I think they deserve 110% of the oil revenue

They were promised 10% before the 2008 election, they believed the promise and voted accordingly. Pay time!

  3. bah dont get me started on the black gold business. I still think Naija would be better off without it in many ways. Revenue never goes to the people.

  4. Nana - You think they deserve 110%. Would that mean we should go back in time and give regions like Ashanti, Wester and Eastern 110% of gold and cocoa revenue? I so disagree with you.

Kwame - I guess your thrust is that the lesson that should be learned is politicians should not make promises they cannot deliver on.

Adaeze - The Dutch disease and also the disillusioned youth, huh?
