I’ve seen firsthand how we disrespect teachers as a nation. My parents are former teachers. But when striking teachers splash students with bags of water to disrupt a planned programme, I next expect to see a man bite a dog.
... and what would doctors on strike do to their patients? I understand the teachers' plight, but this is very very very disappointing [disapproving look!]
Go easy on the teachers, NY! When one is on the boundaries of poverty, due to terrible wages, and your wages are actually reduced, you will be annoyed! To say the least. Moreover massed ranks of agitated students deprived of quiz competition, can move even Angel Gabriel to do something silly. You don't suppose the students just quietly acquiesced to their quiz being cancelled, do you?
My mom taught for 38 years and retired last year. I can't even tell anyone how much her pension was because I get really upset when I think about it. Parliamentarians get so much after a four year stint in parliament and my poor mother doesn't even get an eighth of that amount after 38 years. So yes, I think I'd throw a rock at somebody if I were a teacher and were provoked enough. I know lots of you won't agree with me but you need to walk in a teacher's shoes at the end of the month when her salary runs out before the day runs out.

ReplyDeleteMy mum was a teacher too, but I think in this case the teachers were disrespecting themselves..
ReplyDeletesplashing students with water, vandalism in regional offices ... are the "strikers" really teachers?

ReplyDeleteTalk has it's place and undisputed benefits. But does a point not come when you all want to act?
