The Ghana Harm Forces

The two forces with legitimate stockpiles of arms in Ghana showed little patience in May. A soldier thought he could ride an unlicensed bike. Two cops would not ‘let him through’. He escaped and brought his whole hyperactive platoon. Cops in Kumasi fled here and there or were felled with hammer blows. If either or both of these armed forces turned on civilians, then, God help us!

Thought we were in a Constitutional dispensation, Lawyer. Or? Wonder if those brutes will be disciplined. Sounds so primitive, because in modern countries you don't even see soldiers riding around, let alone.....!

  2. Exactly my musing: If they could do this to uniformed service men, how much more so against civilians?

  3. Most soldiers consider themselves superior to the policemen and are better than any civilian, at least from the little interaction i have had with some of them. If you are not within the rank and file of the military or have some high post, you are game to them. Plus, most consider themselves above the law and answer to no one but their superiors. Woe to me if i dare insist on rights; what rights! It is the uniform i tell you, it brings out the beast within.

  5. @Lyrix - I would have to diagree with you. Most army officers that I have interacted with an/or seen display a discipline and a humility that FAR EXCEEDS what I have seen displayed by most policemen that I have seen adn/or interacted with. It is the police people that I have come across who think that they are above the law and that they can t reat citizens anyhow. Kai! Without a drop of doubt in my head, I'll take army men over policemen any day!

  6. this is the most stupid event of 2010 so far. I hope the perpetrators are brought to book. I would be so much hurt if this is allowed, like many other things, to go unpunished. I was shocked when I read this. It is really awful and fearful as well. Some people think they are above the law.

  7. @ kwame: scandal soon slips into oblivion here.

@ kissi: dead ducks are we!

@ lyrix: uniform complex caused by too many coups d'etats!

@ lady jaye: true about army discipline. you said officers. can you say as much for the ranks?

@ nana fredua: brought to book? unlikely!

  8. the worst part is not the stupidity of the act itself but the lack of consequence for stupid actions, because those certainly reinforce the negative behavior. One smart enough to act like that, will be smart enough to repeat it once he gets away with it the first time, and next time, his wisdom will add a little creativity.
