Dangerous Risk Adrenaline Suicide by Fear of Falling
The crime of 'Attempted Suicide'. If I could reverse one law, this would be it! What business of the State is it, if I remove me from this world?
The laws which attempt to affect the individual's private life are interesting. Does the state expect them to work? Is their function really to be a symbolic condemnation? Does the attempted suicide pause and consider the law before attempting the act? Perhaps, their function is just to make us feel good?
Meh. All I see is, they're telling me, when I do it, I should make sure I don't survive. I get their point to some degree though, it's attempted murder of oneself...if you could be tried for attempting to kill someone, then why not yourself? It's weird though....when people should be happy about you not succeeding with it, they place you somewhere you'll be unhappy and go right back to where you were. At least, they're not treating suicide as a cry for attention. But if they realise the severity of this, why then do they fail to provide victims with support to pull through? Just saying.....
.. and if you don't survive does the State charge you for murder? Would be interesting to understand how it got to be on the books in the first place.
Sadly, suicide is not a crime. Only the attempt is. I wonder if we'd be upset if a murderer chose to off himself, as much as we're worried about the so called regular folks :D
One has to protect their citizens, including those who want to die, unfortunately. There is an epidemic of youthful suicides is some dreary part of dreary Wales....people are alarmed....one wonders why!
I have to agree that the offence is some kind of showpiece for the State to exhibit its morality - whatever that word means. So, yes, symbolic condemnation. I would not be surprised if it began when the State and Church were one 'Establishment', so we mixed human law with divine law... @ Graham.
Yes, it is the attempt and failure which is punished. The offence is known as Attempted Suicide. As I have said, I believe it started when laws were made by priests... @ Denise & Daixy.
I know that while it remains on the statute books, some countries appear not to prosecute attempted suicide anymore. They recognise that these people need help... @ Daixy.
I have thought about it. I feel the only reason for the State wanting to 'protect' its citizens from self-murder is TAXES!...@ Kwame Mensa-Bonsu.
Nana Yaw, LMAO @ Taxes being the reason for protection of citizens. I think I have to agree with you lol
NY, those guys mentioned don't pay taxes and r never going to pay taxes as they depend on the state. It's just politics...and maybe reputation.
@ Kwame, Umm...I pay taxes. I don't depend on the state...Not all depressed and suicidal people depend on the state for their livelihoods. Most are just like you and me.@ Nana Yaw, other countries realise they need help. Ghana on the other hand does not. This is what I am fighting for.
@ Daixy, things is try to read about Wales and you'll get the picture. There is depressed and suicidal....and there is depressed and suicidal. Catch my drift?
