A Gormless Ghanaian Game

Is it a Ghanaian game to gather gaudy clothes, glitter across the city, and haunt the hippest hangouts, just to see what Thomas, Richard and Harold are doing and to amuse oneself with hating and false laughter?

  1. :) Well yeah! What else do we have to do with our time and money? Certainly not curl up with a good tome and lose ourselves in a fantasy world.

We're social creatures. We thrive on gossip and the threat of scandal. Sad, but true.....

  3. Hmmm.... this is a big question... and the false laughter... pretending to be fitting in...

  4. But don't we all love going to places which have a sign outside saying "Have fun here"? These clubs and spots are indeed the only places where 'fun' can take place. What other choice do sad, Western-named people have?

  5. Oh ho, that's the programme? Well, it is no longer strange that I feel out of place a lot then. It is all right to dress up (or down) and go have fun on your time and money, but that is different from ogling, voyeurism and the silly laughter that Accraians do... @ Daixy and Tetekai.

  6. Yes, it is the false laughter the irks the soul. Especially when it comes from nobodies, of which there are lots... @ Nana Fredua.

  7. I see you put 'fun' in quotes. A subtle endorsement of people watching and mocking, no? Well, I think sad westerners can have 'fun' anywhere in Accra without laughing at other Accraians (be they African or Westerners). The mall (since half of Accra goes there), the beaches, the University of Ghana, a beautiful campus just to walk around (and I am talking about the architecture and landscape only), the gardens at North Legon, Makola market (for its culturally shocking experience, Jamestown (for its really rustic life), Achimota School (for much the same reason as Legon) the park called Rufus, I believe at Dodowa, etc etc... @ Graham.
