GH¢10 ($7.14) won’t admit you to Ghana’s only real cinema. It will take one-and-a-half times that. I’ve heard it said that most families, here, must live on less than $1 daily, judging from the wages.
Dayum! Silverbird? I was just about to consider going to see a movie sometime, but I think I'll pass...and my family doesn't even live on less than $1 daily. Quite a shame.
Don't you know Ghanaians are magicians? They live on less than a dollar and do a lot with the dollar. For such movie tickets...well I will have to fast for seven days. Once a while perhaps yes but never routine...
*Yup* learnt the hard way about this ridiculous price hike. Factor in popcorn, drinks and a movie and suddenly a dinner and movie date becomes a really expensive night out. (Shameless blog plug) Did you see my post early this year on New York Movie prices in Ghana??
@ Kwame Mensa-Bonsu: That's something. If the average Ghanaian had to spend that much commuting daily, they'd be bankrupt faster than the word.
@ Tye: Maybe you'll go once in a month?
@ Nana Fredua-Agyeman: Yep, they say "abracadabra" everyday at their front door before pushing off into the uncertain day.
@ Juanita: I can put together a little group and you can come along, on me!
@ Myne Whitman: Yep, that's what Abena Serwaa blogged on and called "New York prices".
@ Lucci: I believe your ID would have got you in for GHC7 when the normal gate was GHC10. Now that the normal gate is GHC15, you may have to pay more, just to see a flick like "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", remember?
@ Abena Serwaa: Yes, I read and loved that post. I should have remembered, and linked to, it. Sorry about that.
Went with Abena to see AVATAR for 12 cedis one monday. Not been to the cinema since then. I'm thinking of buying a projector and watching my torented movies on my ceiling or something for the old school cinema effect. And before you ask, it's Daixy we're talking about. Of course I'd pull some crazy stunt like that LOL
Sorry, but what I know is that it'll just be enough for a day's London bus pass. hope it's good enough!
