Five Lives

A young mother of five
Didn't want to see them alive
She administered death's drink
And immortalised her name in ink.

For an interesting note on the woman who is suspected of murdering her 5 kids, all below age 10, by poisoning, see Co-blogger Que's note here

  1. Postpartum depression maybe?

  2. Post-natal depression? Well, her last child was 2, I think. Who knows?

  3. People say she was, Myne, but in Ghana as in other countries, it takes a "Medical Committee" to declare a person legally crazy. The woman took her own life too, although she did not die immediately.

Sad, Sad Story. It will be difficult to get to the bottom as she took her own life as well. Sure there were signs but those are easily missed. Very sad story.

  5. It was sad and even more so, the Ghanaian medias' decision to show all of the now diseased persons on the front of their newspapers, why do I need to know what 5 dead kids looks like?

  6. I agree, Kwame. But, do we really want to get to the bottom of this particular event?

Yes, Nana, as it can help improve both the treatment and bureaucratic processes. An ill Naija woman here killed herself and her 2 kids early last yr after they had been taken away from the very sane Dad. An issue of the law taking precedence over child safety. The people in charge vowed to learn the appropriate lessons AND they had the records to draw on. Wonder their Ghanaian counterparts have similar records, so she staying alive would have helped. If they wanted to learn, that is!
