The Kumasi I Saw

Kiz and I took a rugged road trip through the airy Aburi Mountains and not-so-novel New Juabeng, through the king-size Kwahu Highlands and Asante-Akyem to Kumasi (the second city). I may employ next week reliving the experience through my posts. But, to summarise it all here, the Kumasi I saw was weather-cool, traffic-light, better-roads, bigger-average-booty compared to Accra. Plus, there was chow aplenty. But Kumasi has probably more streetwalkers, more BO in polished places, less or no English, and precious little unleaded fuel (or knowledge about it). But nothing I have seen compares to the nighttime Bantama streets, nothing!

  1. Mmm, you make me wanna go see the place! Looking forward to your stories. But please explain, BO=body odour? and why do they have little unleaded fuel? Isn't all fuel sold at filling stations unleaded?

  2. Yes, Kwegyirba, BO body odour. They just don't stock V-Power of Effimax in most Shell and Total outlets. You ought to go there.

  3. lol..uhm...guess who's hubby is from Kumasi? Mine? Guess who's parents moved back to Kumasi? Mine!...hehe...I am yet to figure out what the Bantama night life is. And I swear we speak English! They might think you're Nigerian if you do though. Ha! I found myself engaged in a very lengthy conversation disputing the notion that I was Nigerian and my married last name(Totoe) is in fact very Ashanti(origin-Fumesua near Ejisu). I still love K'si! Very rich culture.

  4. Nana Yaw: I'm absolutely in awe... My friend who is on his first visit to West Africa just got back from a business meeting in K'SI last week and declared that he loved Kumasi. This left me quite perplexed. So was all set to do a posting on my own Oseikrom impressions when I read this.
    Mind-boggling and eerie...
