Letting Go

Why should you let them go
When it's true, and you know
Their chance of a happy life
Is all in being your wife?

  1. Eish NY, dont keep them simple because they are short of viable alternatives.
Depending on another for happiness is a burdensome to both sides.
Dont keep what is unsustainable, period!

  2. A really perplexing question: if it means their chance at a happy life then why contemplate letting go? Mmmm I suppose an additional question would be if their being your [poetic persona's] wife would also mean a chance at a happy life for both parties.

  3. Dear Posekyere,

I agree with your general position. But I am not sure what the Persona is primarily concerned with.

  4. Dear Abena,

Thanks for brilliantly avoiding the trap of confusing the Poet with the Persona.

The Persona is probably contemplating letting them go, because the woman wants out. The Persona can accept and let them go in peace, or fight to keep them together by any means necessary.

  5. So just keeping dem cus all dey wan is only to be called your wife? Dey wan to be feel loved buh not keeping dem to bear dat name "wife" even though it is their dream to be called dat.

  6. This poem and the comments sure got me thinking.
I often think people (esp. in this part of the world) let people go way too easily - or give up too quickly without giving things a fair shot, or even out of pride. Thanks for your comment on my blog - check out my answer.

  7. Dear Naa,

Maybe I see your point. But have you read the other comments? There's another thought which holds that sometimes people let go too easily. Sometimes failing relationships can be salvaged.

  8. Dear Adaeze,

I totally agree with you. We must not give up on love too readily or easily.

Well since this is just about the Persona, I'm not even going to bother with my 2 cents today.

    Hows the weather?

    It's rather sunny today!
