A quarter-century ago in the city of Accra, if it was pretty and made by human hands, it was made in Japan, Taiwan or Korea. Now every ‘desirable’ is
imitated made in China – hair, toys, laptops, clothes, cameras and a few cars. Added to this, you can see a Chinese man on every other street of Accra. How this place has changed!
Well this place Changed when the Chinese became the world leaders when it comes to Manufacturing..i like them though..they Get those who can`t afford the real product, the same for less lol

ReplyDeleteWas it better when there were red, sweating, suit-clad IMF undertakers crowding around our five star, air-conditioned hotels, or are we better of with shift-eyed, closed-mouthed Chinese lurking about in dark corners of our streets?
Pick your poison, one way will disappear us fast and loud and the other slow and painful...

Mathematically I guess there are every 600 Chinese to every Ghanaian. That's how the ratio works. Thus, if we say that you can find Ghanaians everywhere we go even in Suriname what about the Chinese. Then we talk about their production prowess. Labour is always cheap when its supply is more than its demand. lol. And since production is about profit and labour forms a largest share (capital investment are always made once or at one point in time) anyone who reduces this makes more profit.... Even the 'mouth mouth' Americans and Europeans are shipping their jobs there. I have an Apple IPAD bought by a friend who went to US for it. It has the inscription 'designed in California, built in China'. or something like that....lol. See?
ReplyDeleteChinese used to be very self contained but they're getting out and about more these days and especially in Africa.
ReplyDeleteTrouble is they never intend to leave. And the major problem is unlike the Syrians and Lebanese of old, they really more numerous!

Didi, I see you agree with the thinking that imitation goods serve a particular good purpose...
ReplyDeleteAnon/Sel, 'IMF undertakers' is so wonderfully descriptive. I do not disagree with your very originally put view.
ReplyDeleteNana Fredua-Agyeman, good point. Very good point. Just don't know what to do with the disturbing fact that some of the Chinese immigrants are convicts and felons deliberately shipped her (Australia style) by the Chinese government.
ReplyDeleteMyne, yes, and they are bringing along some 'serious' capital with them.
ReplyDeleteKwame Mensa-Bonsu, the numbers bother me too, but not the fact of permanent immigration.
